ZDNet: Caldera will integrate, not cut products

“Caldera will develop integrated applications,
operating systems and management software during the coming months
in order to “streamline” products and achieve profitability, not
axe products to save money as expected.

That’s according to the loss-making company’s president and
chief executive Ransom Love who told ComputerWire that a decision
announced earlier this month to “streamline” products would not see
products shelved, particularly older versions of UnixWare and
OpenServer or its desktop Linux. Love said the server operating
systems are important because of their sizable customer base,
especially UnixWare.

In an exclusive interview, Love insisted that Caldera’s decision
to streamline will actually see its Unix and Linux software
integrated through the development of common services, management
and deployment – a task that is now the focus of Caldera’s research
and development work. Love said he believes integration can drive
Caldera into profitability because customers want software that can
be installed out-of-the-box and managed at a low cost.”
