ZDNet: Linux sets its sights on the PDA market

“In the last week alone, there have been two major
announcements of new Embedded Linux support for PDAs and other
handheld personal computing devices. The most recent such news came
from Trolltech
, creator of the well known Qt graphical user
interface (GUI) toolkit that forms the basis of the popular KDE
Linux windowing environment. Trolltech’s announcement followed
within two days of a similar announcement by Century Software
,
the commercial distributor of the open source Microwindows “mini”
windowing/GUI environment for Linux.”

“Those announcements were just the latest two among an
accelerating sequence of Linux PDA developments. Let’s take a look
at some highlights of the Linux PDA support that has emerged thus
far this year.
We’ll break the announcements into two
categories: PDAs that use Linux as the internal operating system;
and Linux-based operating system packages that support multiple
PDAs.”
