“A spate of recent announcements revolving around Linux products
and alliances has breathed new life into Linux–just when it
appeared to be languishing after the dot-com meltdown. The
operating systems’ fortunes rose with the dot-com boom and dipped
into a near-moribund state when that boom turned to bust.

“But, with the help of industry heavyweights like IBM, a handful
of surviving Linux companies is brushing off the dust of the dot
debacle and shedding the “only good for Web serving” label. With
renewed interest coming from all quarters, Linux OSes are now
realistic alternatives for enterprise datacenters as well as
reliable standbys for server-closet duty in small and medium-sized
businesses…”
