A solution to the severe throughput loss caused by I/O-bandwidth management

On PCS, single servers, or nodes in a data center, it is often necessary to guarantee a minimum I/O bandwidth to each client, container, virtual machine, or any other type of entity accessing shared storage. This article shows that, disappointingly, the techniques used to guarantee I/O bandwidths entail dramatic throughput losses: up to 80-90% of the storage throughput. On the bright side, the article reports a new solution that seems to reduce this loss to just 10%.
