Here at NASA as well as in most the engineering world we use
Matlab extensively for analysis work. MathWorks the company that makes
Matlab was one of the very first commerical vendors to add support
for Linux/i386. Now they they say they’d probably add support for
Linux/Alpha if enough people indicate that they want it. They
already have support for Tru64 Unix on Alpha so it shouldn’t be a
difficult port. Let’s get Matlab running on both the best OS AND
the fastest processor at once. Please write
to them
. Refer to techinical
solution #4804
, support for Linux on Alpha. Please make sure to
be nice and thank them for supporting Linux/i386. If you really
want to make a point you might even try calling them
508-647-7000.

Also, check out GNU
Octave
a GPL Matlab work-a-like.
