ATI loses Dell Deal

[ Thanks to narsi for
this report. ]

ATI products are probably one of the best in their class and
inspite of repeated request for a Linux version, they have
responded in negative. Dell went with a competitor. There might not
be direct link here. But you can infer that :

  • ATI supports Win and Mac only
  • Dell builds (Win)PCs
  • Dell used ATI chips
  • Linux Got Industry support
  • Dell started supporting Linux
  • ATI does not support Linux
  • NVIDA supports Linux
  • Dell starts using NVIDA

and hence the inference. Pure market forces are out to play
here. Companies that feel that supporting proprietary models would
suffice have nothing to cover themselves when the model even
falters.
