Hoping to douse some ‘flames,’ Tom defends his use of
‘fragmentation’ in the context of Linux.

“I seem to have inadvertently pressed the glowing red button on
the flame magnet. In the just-prior column, I wrote about the
growth of the Linux continuum and used the word ‘Fragmentation’. My
email box filled up quickly with those that were upset that I would
choose to use such a word. Clarifications are necessary.”

personal background, or direction on where this column is going.
So, a little background is necessary. Pardon the digression while I
clarify both the intent, and share some humble pie.”
