Community: Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps to Use Open Source Software

[ Thanks to Walt

for this information. ]

Remote Area Medical Volunteer
Corps
(“RAM”) is hosting a free healthcare event and will use
open source software to assist with patient management and
recordkeeping.

RAM will be using OpenEMR
software
for its remote free medical clinic in Wise County,
Virginia on July 23-25, 2004. RAM clinics provide free medical care
to anyone. At last year’s event, RAM provided $653,000 in services
to over 4,700 people in 2 1/2 days with 950 volunteer health
workers. No one is paid and RAM’s support is based on
donations.

In prior years, all patient management and record keeping was
done using paper. Beginning in 2004, RAM will use OpenEMR to register patients and for
electronic medical records.

RAM needs:

  1. Medical providers;
  2. Medical equipment technicians; and
  3. Technology support and software developers.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Tim, the technical project
manager.
