With the final release of version 4.0, the team around the open source content management framework
Kajona proudly finalizes a development cycle taking more then one year and presents a renewed system.
The requirement to adopt the framework to the latest technical developments and standards made it
necessary to redesign and reengineer many parts including architectural aspects and the programming-
model itself. The result is a refactored web application framework, based on the latest technology.
The backend interface which is used to manage a website and its contents was redesigned and developed
from scratch. The access by mobile devices is possible out of the box, the daily workflows are supported by
ajax functionalities, drag and drop and dialog based routines. A configurable search engine is not only
available in the portal, but even in the backend. The daily work of content editors is simplified by the portal
editor and the inline editing capabilities, allowing to modify a pages’ content directly and in place. A switch
back to the administration is no longer necessary in many scenarios.
By introducing a new package management, additional modules, templates or updated packages may be
installed with just a few mouse clicks, making an up-to-date system possible with ease.
The development of new functionalities and extensions is supported by a new ORM-mapper, a simplified and
unified filesystem layout and the general use of declarative annotations. Many views of the backend,
including forms and lists, may be generated out of those metadata automatically.
With the release of version 4.0, the active development of Kajona V3 officially comes to an end, nevertheless
security fixed will still be provided for the V3 series. Updating a V3 installation to v4 is possible, more
information on how to update can be found on the projects website.
