“As Pfeiffer fades, Linus Torvalds, self-proclaimed open source
“God,” is lighting up the industry. He stopped the show last week
in Chicago, where a crowd gave him a standing ovation-after they
did The Wave in anticipation of his keynote. Then they demanded
autographs. Torvalds, in jeans and sandals, also tossed several
barbs at Microsoft. At one point, after the lights in the room went
off for the second time, Torvalds said: “The whole show floor is
controlled by Microsoft.””

“Word has it that the other keynoter, Bill Gates, was none too
pleased, and show management was warned that if they want Microsoft
back, they’d better knock off the Linux stuff.”
