CRN: Vendors are taking ‘free’ out of freeware

“Major database vendors are planning to elevate Linux versions
of their products to full-fledged enterprise databases. And under
pressure from users, they are abandoning “freeware” aspects of
their product.”

“Originally, IBM Corp. planned to offer its DB2 for Linux as
freeware with free support via moderated news groups and chat
boards. But now the Armonk, N.Y.-based vendor said it is
reconsidering that move after overwhelming interest from the
corporate market.”
