Embracing Open Source Software for Your Developer’s Sake

Open source software has a much wider breadth of subject matter than does commercial software. This helps developers like me take DRY to the next level. For the uninitiated, D.R.Y. (said like the word ???dry???) stands for “Don’t Repeat Yourself,??? meaning never reinvent the wheel, work smarter not harder. Never store the same piece of information (code is information too) twice and don’t work more than you have to. With open source software, little niches are filled by open source libraries of all sizes, enhancing the productivity of people who use them in favor of writing their own version.
