A new release of the followup paper to “The Cathedral and the
Bazaar” is available on the writings page at my site. It
incorporates substantial new material from quite a number of
respondents.
This is the version that will appear in the upcoming O’Reilly
collection of my essays, unless I hear a good reason to make
last-minute corrections within the next few days. So I’d love to
see feedback, criticism and corrections — but get them to me ASAP
because the window will close very shortly.

“A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for,
nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal
safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free,
unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than
himself.”
— John Stuart Mill, writing on the U.S. Civil War in 1862
