Canonical, through Marina Engelvuori, has announced recently that the Ubuntu community is developing a Facebook application for Ubuntu smartphones, which will be ready for launch later this year. Lots of Facebook web applications were spotted recently among the Linux community, as you can see on our Linux downloads page.

The Facebook app for Ubuntu phone can be launched directly from the homescreen, and notifications about new messages will appear in the “messages” bar on the screen, without users’ intervention. Ubuntu Online Accounts integration will also be provided for the upcoming Facebook app, which will let users register their Facebook details so that the Ubuntu operating system can automatically authenticate the application.
