Fairfax IT: Antitrust trial: Compaq has no alternative to Windows, exec claims

“Testifying at the Microsoft antitrust trial, Compaq Senior Vice
President John T. Rose said more than 90% of Compaq’s PCs ship with
Windows. The remaining machines that ship with no operating system
end up using alternatives such as the freeware Linux.

“A “prime reason” for the company’s concentration on Windows
are the 70,000 applications programs available to run on Windows 95
and Windows 98, Rose said under cross-examination by government
attorney David Boies.”
