The IGEL W7+ range is designed to easily handle the latest unified communications and multimedia applications with an 8GB flash memory

Reading, UK July 14th, 2014 – IGEL Technology today launched a new range of W7+ thin clients to cater for the emerging needs of businesses using Windows-based thin client devices. The W7+ range provides 8GB of flash memory (up from 4GB on standard IGEL devices) on all IGEL Universal Desktop thin clients with the Windows Embedded Standard 7 (WES7) operating system. This additional memory provides more space for plug-ins for the latest applications, such as Microsoft Lync unified communications and Internet Explorer 12. The additional memory also provides administrators with the flexibility to install further software drivers, clients and tools by partial update.

“With the thin client market growing almost 25% year-on-year* in Western Europe, the move towards a centralised application IT architecture continues to accelerate,” said Simon Richards, IGEL Technology Managing Director for UK & Ireland. “IGEL thin and zero clients have become an accepted way to deliver business applications with compliance and security to desktops, laptops and net books. This prevalence is encouraging companies to use thin clients in ever more complex business environments and these situations demand devices with an extended memory capability.”

“Alongside this extended capability comes the need to build stability into the WES7 platform, IGEL is uniquely positioned to do this using its Universal Customisation Builder software.”

All models of the IGEL W7+ thin clients are available for order now. Moving forward, IGEL will offer firmware updates specific to the new product series, and is planning to develop and include new and enhanced features. An example will be the Microsoft .NET Framework update.

Standard in all IGEL W7+ thin clients, the 8GB flash memory provides up to 4 GB of usable permanent storage that customers may use to integrate company-specific extensions, such as applications, special clients, device drivers or tools. Integration of these user-specific customizations into the W7+ firmware is centrally managed using IGEL’s powerful Windows Partial Update feature, which is part of the industry leading IGEL Universal Management Suite included with every IGEL thin client. To make life even easier, IGEL also offers its Universal Customization Builder (UCB) as an add-on feature to make customization of the firmware as simple as possible by providing a tool to manage W7+ integration in a cost-effective, structured and secure manner.

Price and Availability
The UD3 W7+, UD5 W7+, UD9 W7+ and UD10 W7+ models are now available. The all-in-one UD9 and UD10 with touchscreen are also included in the W7+ range. Prices can be requested from all IGEL resellers.

* IDC Q1 2014 figures for Western Europe thin client volume growth 23.9%
