India Shuts Down Zuckerberg’s ‘Free Basics’

In India, the plan met vocal opposition almost as soon as it was implemented. Although the Free Basics company paints a picture of the plan as a somewhat altruistic effort to help the poor, India’s free tech communities saw it as a threat to net neutrality, as well as being a system that could eventually lead to across-the-board tiered pricing from the country’s Internet providers.
