Undaunted by a federal judge’s harsh words calling
Microsoft a monopoly that unfairly crushes potential competition,
and harms consumers as a result, company officials Friday
proclaimed innocence and vowed to press on with efforts to clear
the company’s name.

“Microsoft’s focus on innovation and meeting customers’ needs
and demand has been twisted by the U.S. Department of Justice and
high-tech rivals into anti-competitive, monopolistic behavior,
Chairman and CEO Bill Gates said at a news conference an hour after
Jackson’s ruling was made public.”

“The question is, can a successful American company continue to
improve products for the benefit of its consumers? That’s precisely
what Microsoft did,” Gates said.”
