InfoWorld: More Money for Microsoft in an Open Source Vista?

“Gary Beach, Editor of CIO Magazine, who joined us for a
(mostly) fantastic Open Source Business Conference. Gary and I were
sitting next to each other during Dirk Hohndel’s keynote, in which
he identified over $1 billion Intel’s IT department has saved
through Linux since 1997. Gary pointed out that most of Intel’s
cost savings came in the last four years (2000-2004), and not in
the initial few years.

“This seems to have led him to an interesting blog entry today,
in which he suggests that Microsoft could make more money open
sourcing its upcoming Vista product than it could using its
traditional license+maintenance route…”
