LinuxFocus.org: Gimp’s tools: selection and color correction

“The Gimp is a very powerful program to create and manipulate
images. Some of its many tools allow you to make selections, and
that’s what this article is about. A selection is used to isolate a
specific part of the image in order to change it, independent of
the rest of the image. You can copy, move, replace or filter a
selection, and you can also change its colors/contrast/brightness
or even apply an effect to it. The list of possibilities is
