MKVToolnix 8.8.0 is mostly a bugfix release that patches a regression introduced in MKVToolnix 8.7.0, which made the mkvmerge component to crash, thus making the software’s GUI to report that the mkvmerge executable couldn’t be found. The issue was caused by a bug in the code for the TrueHD detection functionality, which incorrectly detected certain video files in various formats, including H.264/AVC, MPEG-2 and DTS, as TrueHD ones, which in fact they weren’t. This issue has now been corrected in MKVToolnix 8.8.0, thus users need to update as soon as possible.
