Dubbed Baryon and rebased on snapshot 20161211 of the upcoming Debian GNU/Linux 9 “Stretch” operating system, Netrunner Desktop 17.01 comes as a drop-in replacement for the previous release, namely Netrunner Desktop 16.09 “Avalon,” announced approximately two months ago and based on the Debian GNU/Linux 8.6 “Jessie.” While Netrunner Desktop 17.01 “Baryon” is now using the Debian Testing repositories, most of the pre-installed applications are not at their latest versions at the moment of writing the article. As such, the ISO snapshot is powered by Linux kernel 4.8 and ships with KDE Plasma 5.8.2 LTS desktop environment.
