The new version of ]project-open[ offers for the first time a credible open-source alternative to Microsoft Project Server.

Barcelona, May 9th: ]project-open[ is an open source project management application with a focus on finance and collaboration. It’s main purpose is to coordinate the work of project managers, project members and stake holders across multiple projects. Target organizations are companies or corporate departments that need to track finances, tasks, and resources for a large number of concurrently running projects.

The new 4.0 version of ]po[ is available for Windows and Linux and contains 15 new modules that focus particularly on collaboration and project management. The most important new feature is a Microsoft Project integration that allows both the import and the export of project plans to and from MS Project, giving project managers the flexibility of using MS Project for the planning of individual projects. Other new modules add resource management, risk management, budget planning and project baseline tracking to ]po[‘s already extensive feature list. A new reporting engine generates executive project reports in MS Power Point format based on templates that can be customized to fit a corporate CI/CD.

New collaboration modules include; an idea management process, an email tracker that associates incoming email with projects, users, and customers, MS Share Point integration and a (still experimental) ]po[ mobile device integration. A new Wiki gives users the ability to share information and build knowledge bases using a simple WYSIWYG editor. Wiki pages can embed ]po[ pages and data, so that users can efficiently produce dynamic and informative custom content and project sites.

A new configuration wizard automates the import of user information from MS Active Directory. An extended REST API allows to access all ]po[ objects, effectively eliminating the back-end work when creating HTML5 and mobile front-end applications.
