SunWorld: Apachecon: The conference wraps up, with plans still hazy

As the first Apachecon drew to a close, coders who were once
loathe to talk about marketing were posing for photo opportunities
with IBM brass and brainstorming ways to pitch Apache to executives
worldwide. But is anybody actually afraid for the future of IBM’s
new beneficiary? Not really.

“I don’t think the situation with IBM is going to corrupt
[Apache],” said Sameer Parekh, a member of the Apache Group, “but I
think it will change the landscape. Traditionally Apache has
competed with Netscape, but they simply aren’t really in the
picture anymore.”
