Powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.4.28 kernel, available for both 32- and 64-bit platform and fully patched against the “Dirty COW” vulnerability, SystemRescueCd 4.9.0 ships with the recently released GParted 0.27.0 partition editor and e2fsprogs 1.43.3 for better handling of EXT2, EXT3, and EXT4 filesystems. Linux kernel 4.4.28 LTS is used as the standard kernel in SystemRescueCd 4.9.0, which means that it’s the kernel that will be booted by default when running the Live CD on a target computer, but it looks like users will also be able to select a more recent kernel, as the Linux 4.8.5 kernel has been included in this release as the alternative kernel.
