“A U.S. Circuit Court has overturned the federal ban on the
export of strong encryption late Thursday. Free-speech advocates
are encouraged by the decision, but warned that it marks just
another step in an ongoing legal battle.

“The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decided 2-1 in favor of
plaintiff Daniel J. Bernstein, ruling that source code is protected
speech under the First Amendment. This means the government will no
longer be able to control the export of source code for encryption
programs.”
