So, this is a thing. It’s being crowdfunded at crowdsupply. It uses IBM’s POWER8 CPU architecture, which seems to be an evolution from PowerPC. It has onboard FPGAs, with an open toolchain and exposed GPIO pins. Sounds awesome for connecting custom hardware, right? It has a Trusted Platform Module to verify firmware upon boot, but it does *not* have anything like Intel Management Engine. The software, firmware, and schematics will be available to users so they can audit it. There are also no signing keys to restrict firmware modification. And the list goes on…
