Tools4ever’s E-SSOM now supports Linux thin clients by IGEL

E-SSOM, the single sign-on solution from market leader in identity and access management (IdM/IAM) Tools4ever, now supports Linux thin clients by IGEL, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of thin client hardware and software. E-SSOM already provides support for Windows Embedded on thin clients, but with the addition of broader support for different types of thin clients, Tools4ever clients can now take maximum advantage of the two-factor and Follow-Me features.

Tools4ever’s support for Linux clients by IGEL uses an addition to IGEL’s standard firmware. Currently there is only support for Citrix virtual desktops. Broader support and integration of the E-SSOM software into IGEL’s standard firmware is under development.

E-SSOM allows a user to log in easily with an access card (two-factor) rather than requiring a username and password. The Follow-Me feature ensures that an end-user always has access to the applications that they were working, irrespective of the thin client being used. Follow-Me is particularly attractive for staff logging into a variety of workstations; for example, care providers in a hospital. The combination of two-factor and Follow-Me means that an employee simply presents his access card and then gains access within seconds to the applications he already had open elsewhere. A number of healthcare organizations have already expressed interest in this combined offer from IGEL and Tools4ever.

Dean Wiech, managing director of Tools4ever said: ???A thin client is a highly cost-effective solution, and combining it with E-SSOM’s Follow-Me feature produces a very powerful package. Various healthcare organizations can make optimum use of their virtual desktop environments, so that care providers gain rapid access to patient data, and the privacy of this data is nevertheless guaranteed.???

The Follow-Me feature in E-SSOM works in combination with virtualized desktops, such as Microsoft RDS and Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop. The user starts by logging into the network and launching the required applications. He does not have to enter any username/password combination, which is handled entirely by the SSO functionality in E-SSOM. The user also does not need to register with Active Directory, which is taken care of through two-factor in E-SSOM by presenting an access card.

When this user switches workstations, he then has the ability to ???take the logged-in virtual desktop with him??? to another workstation. The user can then reconnect within seconds with the previously-launched desktop???s open applications, simply by presenting his card to the card-reader.
