Turns Out Ubuntu 16.04.2 Is Shipping with Mesa 12.0.6, Here’s How to Use Mesa 13

Many have hoped that the latest Mesa 13.0 series of the open source graphics stack will be included by default in this second point release to the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) series, which comes with updated kernel (Linux 4.8) and graphics stacks from Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak), but that’s not going to happen according to Canonical’s Adam Conrad. Of course, a newer Mesa version is critical for AMD Radeon and Intel gamers, so if you want to enjoy the best gaming experience with these type of graphics cards, you need to install Mesa 13.0 or later. After updating to Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS later today, follow the next instructions to install Mesa 13.0.3 3D Graphics Library.
