Dubbed Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.10 will have a development cycle composed of three Alpha versions and two Beta releases. The final version of Ubuntu 12.10 will see the light of day on October 18th, 2012. GCC 4.7 will be the default compiler for Ubuntu 12.10, OpenJDK 7 replaces OpenJDK 6 as the default Java Development Kit, and Python 3 will be the only Python version pre-installed on the ISO images of Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal).
