Some will say that systemd is a very innovative and useful piece of software, but there are many others who don’t agree with this statement. Therefore, Canonical instructs its users on how to disable systemd and switch back to using Upstart as the default init system. To do so, select the “Advanced options for Ubuntu” at the boot prompt when your computer starts. Then, select the “Ubuntu, with Linux … (upstart)” entry.
