To summarize, Kubuntu comes with KDE Plasma 5.4 and KDE Applications 15.08, Ubuntu MATE features MATE 1.10 and updated apps, and Ubuntu GNOME has GNOME 3.16, Xubuntu dropped Gnumeric and Abiword in favor of LibreOffice Calc and Writer. All of them are powered by Linux kernel 4.1 LTS.
