Powered by the latest Linux 4.8 kernel, Ubuntu 16.10 delivers a wide range of open source and free software projects, most of them with up-to-date versions, including the Mozilla Firefox 49.0 web browser, LibreOffice 5.2.2 office suite, GIMP 2.8.18 image editor, and Mozilla Thunderbird 45.3.0 email and news client. However, the Yakkety Yak release is also shipping with up-to-date Snap technologies, including Snapd 2.16 and Snapcraft 2.19, which allow you to install various applications that are distributed using the Snap universal binary package, as well as to package your apps as Snaps for cross-platform distribution.
