The Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) development starts with some under-the-hood changes, such as the ability for the GCC compiler to build with -fPIE by default for the 64-bit (amd64) and PowerPC 64-bit Little Endian (PPC64el) platforms, the transition of the libpng 1.6, Boost 1.60, and ICO 57 libraries, along with the transition of various other core components from upstream (Debian).
