Ubuntu Kylin 17.04 is a major release of the flavor designed for Chinese-speaking users as it’s the first to drop the Unity interface, which will also be removed from the main Ubuntu variant starting with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and replaces it with an in-house designed desktop environment called UKUI, based on the MATE desktop. UKUI is, in fact, a highly customized MATE desktop, but with a brand-new start menu, desktop taskbar, control panel, as well as desktop theme and icons. Like MATE, UKUI is designed to be fast and easy to use, offering an extensive file manager, and a revamped Ubuntu Kylin Software Center with multi-screen support.
