The latest stable release, Univention Corporate Client 3.0, is now based on Canonical’s acclaimed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, which means that it inherits all of its core components and open-source applications, including but not limited to the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel and LibreOffice 5.1.4 office suite. However, the most important change of this major release of UCC is the fact that the default desktop environment used in the operating system has been switched to Unity. The reason of the move is because Ubuntu’s Unity interface is a long-term supported project and Univention will be able to provide your with 5 years of maintenance for it.
