“Operating system vendor Be will look to the channel to expand
its presence in Europe with plans to bring in more OEM deals and
Vars, and a direct ecommerce operation. Jean Calmon, vice president
for Europe at Be, has confirmed that the vendor is in talks with
three European distributors.”

“Calmon claimed the popularity of Linux had raised the profile
of alternative operating systems, such as Be, but the vendor still
plans to begin an intensive advertising push at the end of the
year. The Be OS is seen as a niche player in the multimedia
market.

Peter Dawes, managing director of Linux reseller Linux IT,
expressed caution, but said he would be interested in hearing what
Be had to say: ‘The Linux market shows every sign of being a
good market to be in. Be is on the periphery of that but it could
benefit from the second wave.’ “
