The Voyager 9 Beta experimental build is built around the latest Xfce 4.12 desktop environment and powered by a kernel from the long-term supported Linux 4.9 series. Previous Voyager releases were based on the Ubuntu Linux operating system, but they are still recommended for use until Voyager 9 gets promoted to stable later this year. The good news is that Voyager 9 will be compatible with UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) machines, but it also ships with a 32-bit PAE version to allow users to use a more lightweight, Xfce-based operating system on their older computers from 10 years ago. However, i586 systems are not supported, only i386 ones.
