“U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson permitted the
U.S. Justice Department and 19 states to submit a reply on Monday
morning to Microsoft’s reply yesterday regarding the government
breakup plan.
Microsoft in turn was given until Wednesday
morning to file its final reply before the judge issues a ruling,
according to a court transcript of the conference call.”

“Jackson then asked Justice Department attorney David Boise,
“And will that bring it to a close?” Replied Boise, “That will
bring it to a close, your honor.”

“Justice Department spokeswoman Gina Talamona said the document
reflected Microsoft’s denial about the judge’s verdict. “This is
another effort to posture for appeal,” Talamona said. “Much of
Microsoft’s submission is patently irrelevant to the question
before the court. The filing does not come to grips with the fact
that Microsoft has been found to have repeatedly engaged in serious
legal violations. Serious remedies are required to restore
competition and prevent similar violations in the future.”
