Citrix has decided to release XenServer, a commercial product built around Xen Project, as fully open sourced code. The new project has a new website, XenSource.org, which will be the hub for the new community effort which will be birthed around the code. Citrix has committed to undertaking the necessary steps to establish an independent XenServer project and community.

XenServer will take the place of Xen Cloud Platform (XCP), which was essentially an unbranded version of XenServer minus a few closed source bits. Now, XenServer will have all the code and functionality of the original commercial product available as Open Source.
