ZDNet: Microsoft’s Secret OS Plan

“Last week, I got a copy of Microsoft’s three-year battle plan
to market Neptune, a new operating system otherwise known as
Consumer Windows. In the plan, which I believe was presented to
executives at the company by either Bill Gates or Steve Ballmer,
Microsoft expresses its concern over numerous issues that it
believes are plaguing the industry.”

“The opening slide of the Neptune presentation describes
Consumer Windows saying, “Create a more valuable consumer PC by
removing complexity, adding relevancy, connecting it to everything,
and making it easy to operate.””

“Microsoft is going to go in the direction of ICQ, the AOL-owned
people-finding client. Expect an ICQ clone shortly from the company
as it targets AOL with Neptune.”
