“Key representatives from IBM, HP and VA Systems were on
hand to give a bullish report on Trillion, the Linux-on-IA64
project, at the LinuxWorld conference this week.
But Big Blue
itself may have problems reconciling these advances with its
commitment to the unified Unix Monterey project.

range of Linux service and technology offerings, however work
continues on Monterey, its joint initiative with the Santa Cruz
Operation (SCO) and recent acquisition Sequent , to merge SCO’s
UnixWare and its own AIX for Intel’s 64bit processor range.

“Although IBM will be offering two highly-functional Unixes on
the same platform next year, the overlap was played down by IBM
executives.”
