rPath Linux

rPath Security Advisory: 2006-0195-2
Published: 2006-10-18
Updated: 2006-10-26 Integer overflow now fixed in Qt library
Products: rPath Linux 1
Rating: Major
Exposure Level Classification: Indirect User Deterministic
Unauthorized Access
Updated Versions:

kdelibs=/conary.rpath.com@rpl:devel//1/3.4.2-5.12-1
qt-x11-free=/conary.rpath.com@rpl:devel//1/3.3.4-5.7-1

References:

http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2006-4811

https://issues.rpath.com/browse/RPL-723

Description:

Previous versions of the qt-x11-free package include Qt
libraries contain an integer overflow flaw that causes them not to
properly bound pixmap image data. This may enable a user-complicit
denial of service attack (application crash), or possibly
unauthorized access via arbitrary code execution, in applications
which use vulnerable versions of the Qt libraries.

Previous versions of the KDE khtml library use Qt in a way that
allows unchecked pixmap image input to be provided to Qt,
triggering this integer overflow flaw in older versions of the Qt
library.

25 October 2006 Update: The initial announcement of this update
included only the KDE khtml library; this update adds the fix for
the Qt library itself.

rPath Security Advisory: 2006-0198-1
Published: 2006-10-26
Products: rPath Linux 1
Rating: Minor
Exposure Level Classification: Indirect User Deterministic
Unauthorized Access
Updated Versions:

screen=/conary.rpath.com@rpl:devel//1/4.0.3-0.1-1

References:

http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2006-4573

https://issues.rpath.com/browse/RPL-734

Description:

In previous versions of the screen package, the screen
program had a bug which is known to make screen vulnerable to a
minor denial of service attack in which the screen program would
crash if presented with particular output. It is possible that this
attack could also allow a user-complicit attacker to assume the
privileges of the complicit user. The screen program is not setuid
in rPath Linux, so any attack is limited to the complicit
user.

Slackware Linux

[slackware-security] qt (SSA:2006-298-01)

New qt packages are available for Slackware 10.0, 10.1, 10.2,
and 11.0 to fix a possible security issue.

More details about this issue may be found in the Common
Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database:

http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2006-4811

Trolltech has put out a press release which may be found
here:

http://www.trolltech.com/company/newsroom/announcements/press.2006-10-19.5434451733

Here are the details from the Slackware 11.0 ChangeLog:
+————————–+
patches/packages/qt-3.3.7-i486-1_slack11.0.tgz: Upgraded to
qt-x11-free-3.3.7.
This fixes an issue with Qt’s handling of pixmap images that causes
Qt linked applications to crash if a specially crafted malicious
image is loaded. Inspection of the code in question makes it seem
unlikely that this could lead to more serious implications (such as
arbitrary code execution), but it is recommended that users upgrade
to the new Qt package.
For more information, see:

is another primary FTP site for Slackware that can be considerably
faster than downloading from ftp.slackware.com/.
