remind us that the sort of security challenges the Linux community
has remained largely untouched by in desktop computing are lurking
in the embedded world, too.”

“Item: The New York Times reported that Bluetooth, the upcoming
defacto standard in wireless consumer appliances, was found to have
a hole that revealed communications between devices in the ‘smart
home’ of the future might not be as secure as believed.”

…Two of these incidents, while having absolutely nothing
to do with Linux, or even open source computing in general, are
useful reminders that as our toys and appliances get smarter, we
have to treat them as something other than the hermetically sealed
and largely static devices consumer electronics have been to this
point.
