“A while ago I got the book ‘Database Nation: the Death of
Privacy in the 21st Century’ for winning the InSANE Quiz at SANE
2000. I feared that this book would be very 1984’ish, larded with
anecdotes about people facing horrible things due to overzealous
bureaucrats and paranoid intelligence agencies. Fortunately it
wasn’t the case at all.”
“The books shows very lightly (with anecdotes) what actually
can happen if (on purpose or by accident) sensitive and private
information is treated improperly. Besides that (just the
anecdotes) the author shows us exactly *what* goes wrong and
also *where* it goes wrong, what can be done about it or what
should have been done about it.”
“The book itself is fun to read and also very interesting. I
enjoyed reading this book, although there weren’t any real eye
openers in it (at least for me). The only thing that could be used
against this book is that it’s really oriented at the USA and that
lots of interesting things that are going on in Europe aren’t
looked at very well or aren’t even mentioned.”
