HTC Android phones leak personal data to any app with Internet permissions

“Tell HTC is meant to be software that collects anonymous
information about how you use your phone. It is included as an app
called HtcLogger.apk, and sits there collecting a lot of data about
you and your phone usage. This information includes user accounts,
network connection details, last GPS location, phone numbers used,
SMS data, system logs, what’s in memory, running processes,
installed apps, battery details, and a heck of a lot more. A
typical log for HtcLogger.apk can be over 3MB in size, all of which
is text, highlighting just how much detail it can contain.

“If this data was only accessible to HTC alone, then there would
still be some limited concern, however, you can turn it off as this
is an option given to you (see video below). The problem is,
Android Police discovered this information is collected regardless
of your preferences and is accessible by any app with the right
permissions.”
