InfoWorld: [IBM] WebSphere scalability add-ons pack a punch

“IBM in September will add some muscle to its WebSphere 3.0
application server with an add-on Performance Pack that helps
electronic-commerce applications handle more demanding
workloads.

Version 3.0 of the Performance Pack contains several systems
management features, including compatibility with Tivoli’s
enterprise products, security, better control over the product’s
caching capabilities, and improved Linux support.”

“At its core, the WebSphere Performance Pack helps users load
balance data and traffic over multiple servers that are either
geographically dispersed or all in one location. It also helps
administrators to maximize memory caching capabilities, which
improve overall Web server performance, and to manage multiple
servers.”

“Reflecting IBM’s focus on Linux during the past year, the
company is adding support for the open-source operating system in
the Performance Pack.
Support for the cache manager and file
management on Linux is available in Performance Pack 3.0, with
support for load balancing coming later this year, company
officials said.”
