InfoWorld: WatchGuard is partnering with service providers to offer network security

Chris Slatt, CEO of WatchGuard, talked with InfoWorld.
WatchGuard makes the Linux-based ‘WatchGuard LiveSecurity System’
firewall appliance.

“Our solution is based around an appliance concept that includes
firewall functionality, access control type capability, encryption
for virtual private networks, and authentication of users and
services. It comes in a red box actually, and from a Windows PC,
the user interacts with the security policies of the network.”

“You can outsource [the management] to your service providers.
Obviously, the Internet service providers are one of the groups
that’s aggressively going after this marketplace.”

“It’s about $900 or $995 a month for this type of service, and
it’s a fully managed security service. The salary of a network
specialist is approaching about $100,000, that is when you can find
them. They are very few and far between. One of the places they do
exist is at the service providers…”
