in a link to his opinion piece:

“The User Interface is Not the Problem!

    This
    Story
talks about the state of the current User Interfaces,
defines a user interface and talks about how the criticism against
the GNU/Linux user interfaces are actually misleading and
    unfounded.

It also points out that GNU/Linux is ready for the business
    desktop.”

    good read!”

  • And finally Steve
    sent us this update:

“A Special Thanks to the Linux Community

Several weeks ago I put a post on Linux Today
asking for examples of Linux used as a firewall in the corporate
environment. This is to thank all of you who responded. Special
thanks go to Fred Mobach, Vince Pereze of Linuxcare, Linux Today
for posting the request, and several individuals at OnShore.

Now for an update on the situation:

We met with the original consulting company today. This is the
company that sent a report to our corporate lawyer about how we
were endangering our data because we were going to use Linux for a
firewall. For sake of simplicity, we’ll call them company A. Now in
order to back their position, company A brought in 2 additional
consultants from company B. Compay B specializes in information
systems security. It appeared to us that company B was uninformed
as to what was really going on. In the end company B supported our
position more than they supported company A’s. We made company A
eat their own words. In all fairness to company A, we believe all
of the underhanded tactics were the doings of this one particular
sales rep. After all, he is the son of a politician 🙂 We felt the
techical consultant sent from company A was forced into the
position of trying to make Linux look bad. He wouldn’t dispute any
facts the we laid out on the table and agreed with most of what we
said. In the end, company A agreed with what we said about Linux,
even though it was exactly opposite of the slander they put in the
report that was sent to our corporate attorney.

It was a good day for us. Now the real question is: will the
sales rep from company A send a letter to our corporate attorney
    stating that he was wrong?

This little incident really showed me how the Linux Community
sticks together. Again, I thank you all for your responses. I
apologize for not naming everyone that responded, but there were
    just too many.”
