“PEC Solutions officials said that its role in the $765,000
deal is to help manage the transition to a state-of-the-art
information system using Linux to to enhance communications and
information sharing among the Veterans Benefits Administration’s
(VBA) numerous regional offices.”

“The communications gateway, said PEC spokesman John McNeilly,
is based on the Red Hat Linux platform, which enables value-added
Internet and Intranet services.”

“McNeilly said the company plans to acquire the components
necessary for constructing and deploying the enhanced information
gateways which are geared to provide communication between VBA
workstations and its Benefits Delivery Network (BDN). The network,
he added, hosts important benefits for veterans, such as
compensation, pension, and education, to name a few.”
